Good afternoon. I'm writing today to provide an update on our 2020-2021 School Year Education Continuity Plan and the potential for us to offer those currently attending school in-person, in a school building, the opportunity to move to an online option for the remainder of the school year.
At their meeting on Monday, January 4, the Wadsworth City School District Board of Education made the following changes to the 2020-2021 School Year Education Continuity Plan:
- Removed the automatic change to remote learning if Medina County moves to Level 4, Purple, on the Ohio Public Advisory Alert System; and
- Removed the two (2)-week transition out of remote learning or the hybrid model and back into regular in-person education.
In regards to Level 4, Purple, the board will continue to monitor, at minimum, the following indicators to determine when a move to an alternative learning model (remote learning or hybrid) may be necessary:
Student attendance rate, including the number of students in quarantine;
Staff, in particular, teacher, attendance rate;
Substitute fill rate, in particular, how each period is being covered for students when a teacher is out so we can gauge what type of education continuity is occurring;
The most current Ohio COVID-19 Risk Level Guidelines for the Public data;
Wadsworth-specific COVID-19 data (if available), including: test positivity rate and incidence rate; and
Consultation with the Medina County Health Department.
In regards to the two (2)-week transition, while a transition period will still occur, the revision allows for flexibility in the amount of time needed, depending on the circumstances at the time of the transition.

Based upon the preliminary data provided in the December 29 Parent/Guardian Google Form, the Wadsworth City School District Board of Education would like to continue to explore offering the opportunity for students currently attending school in-person to change to our online option, Wadsworth Wired, for the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year.
Please understand that our ability to do this at some grade levels will be based upon our ability to hire additional teachers, as most of the teachers in the potential expansion of the Wadsworth Wired program are not currently employed by our school district.
In addition, if the number of students opting to move to Wadsworth Wired are larger than the preliminary numbers from the December 29 Parent/Guardian Form (roughly 100 students), the board of education will need to re-evaluate the cost to expand the program, as the program expansion is not in our five-year financial forecast. While it is believed that we will be able to offset some/all of the expense with federal funds meant to assist with costs associated with COVID-19, details and funding amounts from the most recent federal relief bill have not been provided to us yet.
You are asked to complete the questions on the form only if you would like your child(ren) to move from in-person education in a school building to Wadsworth Wired for the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year. If your child is already in Wadsworth Wired, there is no need to fill out the form.
