Franklin School sits atop a rolling hill in the southern quadrant of Wadsworth, Ohio. There are twelve acres of land that envelop the school and includes an expansive grassy area for play, a wetlands for field studies and a wooded area with trails for exploring. The grounds are well maintained by the district and were recently cited by Medina County Water and Soil Conservation District as a Wild School Site due to the maintaining of the natural areas on the property.
Franklin is one of five neighborhood elementary schools located throughout Wadsworth. All five follow the same adopted curriculums in all subjects; however, each maintain their own unique character and culture. The staff follow the motto that proclaims our students have CLASS: Children Leading, Achieving, Striving and Succeeding! This statement is read over the PA announcements each morning to remind all that is the vision of the school.
The school has been rated by the state as ‘excellent’ many times over the past number of years. That success is due largely to the high expectation set forth by the teaching team. Many interventions and supports are in place to assist all degrees of educational needs.
Finally, Franklin School is a perfect mixture of traditional and progressive teaching. The basic skills continue to be the main focus in our educational program; however, research has dictated that we help students secure needed 21st century skills in order be prepared their future endeavors. We have infused STEM initiatives in all grades K-4 that help students learn the process of problem solving and working collaboratively together in seeking solutions. Students at Franklin School are introduced to a wide variety of technology such as robots, videotaping and editing equipment, coding programs, 3D printers and other design-process tools.
Franklin School is just one of the fine jewels found in the Wadsworth City School’s crown!
