Art (Ms. Bossart)
Music (Mrs. Adley and Ms. McArtor) Starting in the 2012-2012 school year, CIS students have the option of being in either Band or Choir. Students will be given the opportunity to try the basic five band instruments during their music class and then decide if they would like to participate in Band or Choir. Band or Choir will meet once a week during their specials times and band will have two recess rehearsals on Tuesday and Thursdays. All rehearsals occur during the student's school day. There are two performances during the school year, which are held in the evenings. New 5th grade band students will be asked to register online using the link on the right hand side of the page that says "Fifth Grade Band Registration Form". Please return that via email if possible. Fifth and Sixth grade students will be asked to record their practice time throughout the week in their practice journals in the front of their book (The red Standard of Excellence Book I). We will be tracking our practice progress this year to see how many minutes we can accumulate!
Physical Education (Ms. Eichelberger, Ms. Minick, Mr. Puglisi) Your child will participate in Physical Education twice a week for 40 minutes each day. It is important that your child dress appropriately on these days. For safety reasons, tennis shoes are preferred. Our goals for your child are: 1) to give him/her the opportunity, encouragement, and guidance to be physically fit; 2) to instill the positive value of physical fitness; and 3) to inspire a lifelong respect for a healthy body and develop a personal resistance to drugs/alcohol/tobacco use. Your child will be involved in many different activities, such as fitness testing, team building, cooperative sports, and various other games. Our fitness unit measures and determines your child's quickness, abdominal strength, arm strength, flexibility, and endurance. During our team building units, students are taught basic skills, rules of the game, proper equipment use, and how to work cooperatively as a team. If your child has any health concerns, please notify us in written form. If for some reason your child is unable to participate at any time, please send a note to the Physical Education class with him/her. Please instruct your child to give the note directly to us. Often times, otes are given to a classroom teacher or to the main office, and we do not receive them in time for class. Your child will be excused for the specified amount of time stated on the note. For information on class expectations and how your child's Physical Education grade is determined, read more here.
